BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ORAL PATHOLOGY AND ORAL BIOLOGY
The present Department of oral Pathology is an offshoot of the Department of Oral Surgery and Oral Pathology, which was established in 1968. The Oral Pathology unit of the Department of Oral Surgery and Pathology actually started with the advent of Professor Roger Browne, visiting Oral Pathologist from the University of Birmingham, in 1969. The department of Oral Pathology and Oral Biology was created, along with five departments, during the 1980/81 session.
This Department renders patient care services, which in the past focused on Histopathology diagnostic services and in addition run an outpatient clinic for Clinical Oral pathology. The Department plans to elevate the status of the clinic to that of Oral Cancer Screening centre for business executives and other people at risk.

The department boasts of well trained highly skilled Oral Pathologists and a very good administrative back-up. Furthermore, we have laboratory facility for histopathologic and cytopathologic diagnostic services. |
