Child Dental Health

The Department of Child Dental Health was created on August 1, 1980, it consists of two units:
Paediatric Dentistry: which deals with prevention and clinical management of oral diseases in young children up to 16 years of age.
Orthodontics: which deals with facial growth and extent of normal variation of forms and functions both the hard and soft tissues and the way in which such variation produce differences in occlusion.

Oral health care in the specialties of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics is provided to children, adolescents and persons with special health care needs. Research activities are also carried out in these areas as well in order to enhance excellent oral health services to the populace. Adult orthodontics is a rapidly growing area of orthodontic treatment in this Department.

The department is the premier postgraduate training institution for paediatric dentistry and orthodontics in Nigeria. Thus, the department has trained many paediatric dentist and orthodontists who are now in practice in various parts of Nigeria and Overseas.
The department has also been engaged in many research activities which are published in both local and international journals.
